mark   Welcome to the site of Patrick Winterton...

A warm welcome to my website

Patrick Winterton currently works as a sports broadcaster specialising on winter and adventure sport. His experience ranges from production, editing and more recently presenting, working alongside the BBC’s Kate Silverton on the “Ultimate White-Water documentary”.

Patrick has lectured on the skills of commentating, delivers motivational talks to sports organisations and corporate bodies, as if this wasn’t enough he is also involved in corporate team building seminars.

Summer 2009 sees the continuation of his attempts to get to the Faroe Islands. Starting from Oban on the 5th June Patrick will work his way north to Stornoway. There he will meet up with former slalom paddler Mick Berwick for the last three legs of the journey; Stornoway to the Butt of Lewis, then to North Rona and on hopefully to the Faroes. Last years experiences and mistakes have been invaluable in the preparation for the second attempt and weather permitting we hope to be in Torshaven by the 7th July.

This crossing was attempted in a double by Karen and Dan Trotter back in 1995. They were just 80 km short when they climbed aboard their support vessel, beaten by the cold, the distance and the tide. The crossing has not been completed in single production kayaks, from the Hebrides, or unsupported. In fact, due to the level of difficulty and endurance required, the crossing has never been achieved; we hope to prove it is possible.

One of our motivations is to raise funds in aid of the RNLI, an organisation that make on average 21 rescues every day of the year. An organisation that is totally dependant on the public’s generosity as well as the commitment and bravery of their volunteers. Please help us reach our target of £50,000, which will go towards the training of those volunteers. ‘We never thought we would require their service and like many others, we were wrong. Donations can be made on and in order to tempt donations we have set up a massive prize fund with over £5000 worth of the best kayaking equipment on offer, including the expedition Tiderace Xplore kayak.
